Frequently Asked Questions

We've put together a list of questions and answers to help you navigate our new textbook and course material process using the Online Programs Bookstore.

How do I know what books I need?

There are two ways to know which books you need. Approximately 30 days prior to the start of classes:

  1. A list containing every required book for each start will be generated. Bachelor's booklist. Master's booklist. NOTE: This list is subject to change.
  2. Approximately 3 weeks prior to the start of your class, you will receive an email with a link to the Online Program Bookstore and instructions for acquiring the required books. The required items will be loaded to your shopping cart.
How do I get my books?
  1. Order through the Online Programs Bookstore. After logging in, you will see a shopping cart pre-populated with the materials you need for courses in which you are registered for the upcoming start date. You can order books directly from the shopping cart (opt-in) or you may decline (opt-out). Opting-out means that you have chosen to acquire the materials through other vendors of your choice. If you have questions about your course registrations please contact your Norwich advisor.
  1. Purchase through other vendors of your choice.
What if my books show up as "out of stock" or on "back order"?

If there is an out of stock message on an item, this means delays for material delivery. It is recommended that you purchase the items that show as “out of stock” or “back ordered” from a 3rd party vendor such as or

NOTE: Please be aware that anything you order from a 3rd party will not appear on your Norwich bill.

How can I opt-in or opt-out of purchasing through the Online Programs Bookstore?

By default, every item in your shopping cart will have a check box and the word “ACCEPT” to the left of the title. If the “ACCEPT” box has a checkmark, Norwich will send you that book (Opt-In). Unchecking the box indicates that you will acquire that book on your own. (Opt-Out) For any item(s) you purchase through the Online Program Bookstore, the charge will appear on your Norwich student bill.  Some items will be available as a print option (New Textbook) and some will be offered as an e-Book (eBook (RShelf- LTI). In some cases, you will have the option of purchasing the print or the eBook. Most eBooks will give you the option of also ordering a POD (Print on Demand).

Can I opt-in from some books and opt-out for others?

Yes. The option to opt-in and opt-out can be selected at the book, eBook, or course material level.

Can I opt-out and then change my mind?

If you opted out, then decide you do want to get the course materials through the Online Programs Bookstore, you will need to notify your Norwich advisor. He/she will request that your shopping cart be reloaded.

NOTE: You must do this prior to the first day of class. Course materials must be acquired by the first day of class.

What are my book format options?

Some titles will be available in digital/eBook, others available in print and in some cases you may have an option of either a print or an eBook. Most eBooks are offered with an option to purchase a print on demand (POD) along with the digital format. With this option, the vendor will print and mail you a bound copy of the eBook, although the quality will not be the same as the actual textbook.

How long will I have access to my eBook?

Norwich has worked with vendors to obtain the best possible pricing for your eBook. If you select the ebook, the length of access will appear in the title.

NOTE: If your program has a comprehensive exam or capstone, you should ensure that you have appropriate length of access to content you may need.

What does "POD" mean and when would I choose that option?
  • POD stands for “print-on-demand.” With this option, the vendor will print and mail you a bound copy of the eBook.
  • You may want to consider purchasing a POD of the title you would like to have access to the content beyond the length of access for the eBook.
  • Availability of a POD will be noted when ordering an eBook.
How and when can I access my shopping cart?

An email will be sent to your NU Student Email account when your shopping cart is available. You can expect email approximately 3 weeks before class begins. If you registered closer to the start of classes (less than 3 weeks), you can expect an email after registration.

Your cart will be accessible until 12:00 p.m. ET Friday of week 1 of classes.

How do I access my eBook(s)?
  • Once purchased through the Online Programs Bookstore, your eBooks will be accessible through a platform called RedShelf.
  • Your eBook(s) will be available on your RedShelf bookshelf after you have created an account (first-time users) and logged into Redshelf.
  • RedShelf allows highlighting, note-taking, flashcards, study guides, collaboration and easy search options for all of your eBooks.
  • For students who may have purchased items under our previous e-Book provider, VitalSource; those items should still be available to you as long as the access period has not expired.
When will my print books ship?

You will receive a shipping confirmation email when your books have shipped. For additional information, you may check your Order Status from the home page of the Online Programs Bookstore.

Please note: If you have ordered e-Books, the instructions for accessing the materials should be on the order confirmation screen once you have checked out. These instructions are also available under the Order Status of the Online Programs Bookstore.

What shipping methods will be available to me?

UPS Ground (typically 3-5 business days) is the default shipping method selected when your order is uploaded to your shopping cart. The shipping charges will be applied to your Norwich student bill.

If necessary, you can upgrade the shipping method, however; please be aware that any additional charges for expedited shipping will need to be paid at the time you place your order. The charge for the default shipping method will be added to your Norwich Student bill, but the cost of the expedited shipping will need to be paid at the time of checkout. The upgrade options for residential stateside shipping will be UPS 2-day or 1 Day (Overnight).

Packages will ship via USPS. There is no option to expedite shipping for these addresses. Typical delivery times for USPS are 5-10 days, however once it arrives at the Military Postal system, there could be further delays.

Shipping options will depend on the country selected.
