As you've heard, we are making some changes to our book processes here at Norwich which will enhance your student experience and help keep your academic costs under control.

We've put together a list of questions and answers to help you navigate our new textbook and course material process using the Online Programs Bookstore.

How do I know what books I need?

There are two ways to know which books you need. Approximately 30 days prior to the start of classes:

  1. A list containing every required book for all courses will be published on this webpage. NOTE: This list is subject to change until 3 weeks from the start of class.
  2. Once you are registered for class(es), you will receive an email with a link to the Online Programs Bookstore and instructions for acquiring the required books for those courses.
How do I get my books?
  1. Order through the Online Programs Bookstore. After logging in, you will see a shopping cart pre-populated with the books you need for any courses in which you are registered for the upcoming start date. You can order books directly from the shopping cart (opt-in) or you may decline (opt-out) those you choose to acquire through other vendors of your choice. If you have questions about your course registrations please contact your Norwich advisor.
  1. Purchase through other vendors of your choice.
How can I opt-in or opt-out of purchasing through the Online Programs Bookstore?

By default, every item in your shopping cart will have a check box and the word “accept” to the left of the title. The checked item indicates that when you complete your order, Norwich will send you those books. (Opt In) Costs for books that you order will be posted to your Norwich bill.

Unchecking the box indicates that you will acquire that book on your own. (Opt Out)

Can I opt-in from some books and opt-out for others?

Yes. The option to opt-in and opt-out can be selected at the book, eBook, or course material level.

Can I opt-out and then change my mind?

If you opted out, then decide you do want to get the course materials through the Online Programs Bookstore, you will need to notify your Norwich advisor. He/she will request that your shopping cart be reloaded. NOTE: You must do this prior to the first day of class. Course materials must be acquired by the first day of class.

What are my book format options?
  • Certain titles will be available in both digital/eBook and print.  In your shopping cart, if format options are available, you will be able to select the format that you prefer.
  • Frequently, there will also be the option to purchase a print on demand (POD) version along with the digital format. With this option, the vendor will print and mail you a bound copy of the eBook.
How long will I have access to my eBook?

Norwich has worked with vendors to obtain the best possible pricing for your eBook.  Length of access information will be available when you access your shopping cart.

When purchasing an eBook you will choose one of the following access options:

  • 6-month access with option for print-on-demand (POD)
  • 1 year online during which you should download for perpetual offline access

NOTE: If your program has a comprehensive exam or capstone, you should ensure that you have appropriate length of access to content you may need.

What does "POD" mean and when would I choose that option?
  • POD stands for “print-on-demand.” With this option, the vendor will print and mail you a bound copy of the eBook.
  • You may want to consider purchasing a POD of the title you would like to have access to the content beyond the length of access for the eBook.
  • When POD is available, you will be able to make the selection at the same time that you accept the eBook. In order to obtain the POD version of your text, you must order the e eBook and the POD in one transaction.
How and when can I access my shopping cart?

An email will be sent to your NU Email account when your shopping cart is available (expect email approximately 3 weeks before class begins).

This cart will be accessible until 12:00 p.m. ET Friday of week 1 of classes.

How do I access my eBook(s)?
  • Once purchased through the Online Programs Bookstore, all of your eBooks will be accessible through a platform called Vitalsource. 
  • Your eBook(s) will be available on your Vitalsource bookshelf after you have created an account (first-time users) and logged into VitalSource.
  • Vitalsource allows on/offline reading, highlighting, note taking, and easy search options for all of your eBooks.
When will my print books ship?

You will receive a shipping confirmation email when your books have shipped. For additional information, you may check your order status from the home page of the Online Programs Bookstore.

Once you have opted-in to each of your course materials and finalized the process through the shopping cart, you will receive details about accessing digital titles you have selected.

What shipping methods will be available to me?

  • The default shipping method when we upload your cart will be UPS Ground Shipping (typically 3-5 business days).
  • You will need to select the shipping method that best fits your needs, keeping in mind that the shipping charges will be added to your Norwich Student Bill. The other options for residential shipping will be UPS 2-day or 1 Day (Overnight). Additional charges for expedited shipping must be paid at the time of purchase.
  • Military addresses will ship via USPS. Typical delivery times for USPS are 5-10 days, however once it arrives at the Military Postal system, there could be further delays. 
  • International shipping options will depend on the country selected.

Your Norwich advisor can help answer additional questions about course textbooks and materials, course registration, and how-to opt-in and opt-out of using the Online Programs Bookstore.

Assistance with Chrome browser issues
  1. Click the Chrome Menu icon on the far right of the Address bar.
  2. Click on Settings, scroll to the bottom and click the Show Advanced Settings link.
  3. Click on Change proxy settings (under Network)
  4. Click the Security tab > Trusted Sites icon, then click Site
  5. Enter the URL of your Trusted Site (https://www.myedmap.com/Storefront/Home/NORVS, then click Add.
  6. Click Close > OK.
