Norwich enhanced my communication skills and heightened my research ability, which is crucial in the Army HR world.
Q: “Tell us about yourself.”
A: “I have been a human resources specialist in the army since 2016. I have two brothers and a wonderful mother and stepfather. I have two dogs whom I cherish more than anything, and I enjoy reading, watching crime shows, and being outdoors. I joined the Army in 2016 as a human resources specialist. I have been stationed in Korea, Fort Bragg, and now Fort Belvior. I love HR, and I enjoy being in the Army.”
Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: “I joined the Army for a lot of reasons, but a big one was me not knowing what I wanted to do with my career and life. When I started to learn my job as HR, I fell in love with it and realized even if the Army didn't work out, I'd want to do it in the civilian realm as well. So, I decided to get my degree in a program that would assist with that.”
Q: “What are your future professional plans?”
A: “I want to stay in the Army a little while longer, pursue my master's degree, and maybe get out and try HR in the civilian sector.”
Q: “Why did you choose Norwich?”
A: “I was with JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command), and we could send our transcripts to JSOU (Joint Special Operations University). They would review our transcripts and send us back programs that aligned with our goals and schools that accepted most of our already earned credits. Norwich's management studies program hit all of those markers.”
Q: “Did you have any uncertainties with choosing an online program?”
A: “I only had the choice of an online degree, but I did look at multiple schools, and Norwich was by far the best.”
Q: “Prior to beginning your courses, what were some of your expectations for an online degree program?”
A: “I was worried about any course that involved math, as that is my weakest subject. At Norwich, I had professors who were very understanding and very helpful. It was also a great chance that they partnered with Sophia towards the end of my degree, and I was able to take some math classes through them at my own pace.”
Q: “What is one piece of advice you would give to future students enrolling in one of Norwich's online programs?”
A: “Be diligent with your classes. Make sure, with your already busy schedule, you take time to actually pay attention to your classes and allot time to read the material.”
Q: “What has been your biggest personal or professional success since starting your degree?”
A: “Getting my degree is a huge success, as not everyone decides to get a degree while working full time.”
Q: “Please tell us about a time when you could put your knowledge gained in the classroom to work immediately at your job.”
A: “I always refer to my classwork in my day-to-day job. I can apply many concepts from employment law and my 400-level classes to relate to things and try to find better ways to work through programs and policies.”
Q: “What aspects of your Norwich experience will you carry most strongly with you?”
A: “Norwich enhanced my communication skills and heightened my research ability, which is crucial in the Army HR world.”
