I feel confident that my Master of Science in Leadership degree from Norwich may catch an eye of a future employer who knows about the values of the University as well as its history.
Q: "Tell us about yourself."
A: "As a testament to my personal drive and desire to lead, I have managed these last years by raising a family, completing my master’s program, and pursuing multiple professional development opportunities. Upon moving to Germany last October, in support of my husband’s profession, I have been a regular volunteer at my children’s DoDEA Elementary School in my children’s classroom, the PTO, Girl Scouts, a soccer coach, and elected Chair of the Elementary Student Advisory Committee (SAC). I was also chosen to participate in a Leadership Summit during my graduation week."
Q: "What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?"
A: "Leaving the professional world to become a full-time parent left quite a gap in my resume. I wanted to time my degree completion for when both of my children started school so that I could have something that would make up for that gap. I notice that HR was a job that is always in demand as a military family it is a degree that can facilitate a life style that has us moving every few years."
Q: "Why did you choose Norwich?"
A: "My initial draw to Norwich was because of its rich history with the Services and the Military. For instance, I could put my studies on hold when we moved internationally without stressing about deadlines or receiving pressure from my instructors. The process of postponing while we adjusted was met with understanding from a staff and faculty who know how stressful it can be for military families to undergo such a transition. Upon my degree completion, I feel confident that my Master of Science in Leadership degree from Norwich may catch an eye of a future employer who knows about the values of the University as well as its history."
Q: "Please tell us about a time in which you could put your knowledge gained in the classroom to work immediately at your job."
A: "Finding a mentor was one key element that has been useful as I try to bridge the gap in my resume. I looked for people in my everyday life that could help guide me in volunteer opportunities. I am now finally see how those relationships are paying off professionally as people are eager to be a job reference or introduce me to someone in the industry who can help."
Q: "What aspects of your Norwich experience will you carry most strongly with you?"
A: "Most definitely the motto, 'I will try.' I continue to push myself beyond my comfort zone and encourage my kids to do the same. That’s where growth happens."
