GSOF and Norwich Scholarships

This initiative is designed to support the academic and professional advancement of international special operations personnel.

GSOF – Norwich University Scholarship Program

Administered in partnership between the Global Special Operations Forces Foundation (GSOF) and Norwich University, this scholarship program provides full tuition support for selected candidates pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees. 

Candidates must demonstrate strong professional performance, operational leadership, and the ability to succeed in a rigorous academic environment. Applicants are also expected to show a commitment to strengthening strategic-level decision-making and interoperability within the global SOF community.

Applicants are encouraged to begin gathering documents early to ensure all materials are submitted before the deadline.

Scholarship Benefits

Selected participants will receive:

  • Full tuition coverage for undergraduate or graduate degree programs
  • Access to Norwich University’s accredited online academic programs
  • Opportunity to convert international professional military education into U.S. academic credit
  • Participation in GSOF’s network of international SOF professionals and leaders

Eligibility Requirements

All applicants must:

  • Be active-duty military personnel (enlisted or officer)
  • Be currently assigned to Headquarters U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM)
  • Serve in an international Special Operations Forces component recognized by allied SOF commands
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency sufficient for academic success through TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent documentation approved by the applicant’s U.S. Embassy and SOCOM J3I 

Applicants may be exempt from English proficiency testing if they previously graduated from JSOU EA or a U.S. Professional Military Education (PME) equivalent program.

Enlisted Applicant Requirements

Enlisted applicants must:

  • Complete the Norwich University application form
  • Be a graduate of the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy (JSOU transcript request form)
  • Have at least 10 years of SOF-related military service
  • Hold a high school diploma
  • Submit official military transcripts or training certificates translated into English (undergraduate applicants only)
  • Submit a letter of support from the JSOU Commandant
  • Submit a letter of support from their home command 

Enlisted applicants pursuing a graduate degree must also:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or recognized international equivalent
  • Submit an official credential evaluation from a Norwich University-approved agency for degrees earned outside the United States

Officer Applicant Requirements

Officer applicants must:

  • Complete the Norwich University application form
  • Be assigned to HQ USSOCOM as an Exchange Officer or Liaison Officer (LNO)
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or recognized international equivalent
  • Submit an official credential evaluation from a Norwich University-approved agency for degrees earned outside the United States
  • Submit a letter of endorsement from their home command

Electronic transcripts may be submitted through Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, or other approved services and sent to cgcsamt@norwich.edu via password-protected delivery.

All application materials must be submitted before the application deadline of 30 June.

Incomplete applications may not be considered.

Selection Process

Applications are reviewed by a Norwich University Scholarship Committee.

Selection is based on:

  • Professional military performance
  • Leadership experience
  • Academic readiness
  • Demonstrated potential for strategic leadership
  • Commitment to strengthening the global SOF community 

Final selections will be announced on 15 July.
