Telly Halkias joined the Norwich faculty as an adjunct professor in 2016 and currently teaches literature, history and religion courses in the BSSSDA program. Telly is a retired Army officer who graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA) in 1982 with a BS in engineering and literature, and in 1992 earned a MS in systems analysis management and national security affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). He is also a 1997 graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College (USACGSC) with an elective concentration in history.

Telly has taught for the Vermont State Colleges system since 2008. A past professor of military affairs at Siena College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University at Albany, Telly was also was a military affairs faculty member at the USACGSC. He also taught history the Combat Studies Institute (CSI).While keeping himself involved in the management and finances of several business ventures since his military retirement, Telly has primarily worked as an independent journalist, writing features, reviews and commentaries for numerous regional and national media outlets.

Along with his career military awards and decorations, Telly’s weekly newspaper column “From The Stacks,” which ran from 2004-2014, earned three honors from the New England Press and Executive Editors’ Assn. (NENPA) and a national award in 2013 from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC). In the same year he earned a statewide Excellence in Teaching  award from the Vermont State Colleges. Telly is a co-author (Army Press, 2015) of Afghanistan Expeditionary Sustainment Operations, 2001-2014, and was editor of Army Strong Women: Building The Next Generation, by Melissa Farmer, (Dorrance, 2009).  He is also a member of the American Theatre Critics’ Assn (ATCA), and is currently serving as the national secretary of the NSNC.

Telly lives with his family in northern New England and enjoys mountain hiking, biking, running, cross country/back country skiing, and his pack of Siberian huskies.
