About
John Covell is a retired Naval Officer having served over twenty eight years active duty and another two and half years as a professor at the Naval War College.
While on active duty, John was as a Naval Flight Officer and served in five Hawkeye squadrons, several staff positions, commanded at the squadron and wing level and was the Director of the Navy Command Leadership School. John was the recipient of the 2001 James Bond Stockade Inspirational Leadership Ward. Following his time in the Navy, John continued public service as a member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). During his time with FEMA, John was the director of the Sandy Recovery Office and the Chief of Staff for FEMA Region 2. After five and a half years with FEMA, John retired a second time and has begun working for Patient Airlift Service, a non profit whose mission is to provide free air transportation for patients who need medical treatment unavailable in their local area. John has been a professor at Norwich in the SSDA program for six years. John and his wife Maureen reside in Bellport NY, are the parents of five and grandparents of seven wonderful young people. John Covell holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Marist College and a Masters in Human Resource Management. He is a graduate of the US Air Force Command and Staff College.John is a life member of VFW Post 3800, Tailhook Association and MOAA. In free time, John and Maureen can be found on one of Johns boats either fishing or clamming.
