The Norwich program is very well planned and is designed for the online learner, being very flexible, yet demanding simultaneously.
Q: “Tell us about yourself.”
A: “I have been married for 35 years to Maryrobin, and we have three children: a daughter and her twin brothers. Ryan and Connor were Rooks in 2014 and are both serving officers now. I am a legacy student. I got my legacy from my son, Connor, who graduated in 2018. I spent most of my career as an insurance agent and agency owner. I was affiliated with Colorado Farm Bureau for 18 years. In October of 2021, I attended my 40th Class Reunion, turned 59 years old, finished my bachelor's degree, and moved to Vermont to start my new career with Norwich University. I am an Associate Director of Recruitment and Leadership Programs and the Camp Director for our Future Leader Camp and Leadership Challenge Weekends.”
Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: “During Christmas break 2019, our family was playing Trivia Pursuit. I missed a question that would have won the game. My son, Ryan, said, ‘Dad, if you had a college degree, you would have gotten that one right.’ That was the impetus to get me going to finish my degree. I looked at most of the usual suspects for online college degrees, but something told me to look at Norwich. I loved the program from the start. The CGCS staff was amazing to work with, and they helped me maximize my prior credits and customize my new class schedule.”
Q: “Why did you choose Norwich?”
A: “I chose Norwich University because I wanted a college degree that meant something to me. I learned about Norwich from being the parent of Norwich cadets, and I saw how Norwich impacted them, changing the trajectory of their lives. The Norwich program is very well planned and is designed for the online learner, being very flexible, yet demanding simultaneously."
Q: “Did you have any uncertainties with choosing an online program?”
A: “I did not think I would like the online aspect of the program. As an extrovert, I thought it would be better to be in person and live with other students and a teacher. I learned that the program was so well designed, with discussion and other assignments, that I thrived in this environment. I went on and got my master's only one year after completing my bachelor’s.”
Q: “What has been your biggest personal or professional success since starting your degree?”
A:” I use what I have learned in my career almost every day. I run the leadership camps at Norwich, and we talk about and teach leadership skills all the time. I am an authority with our students and our prospective students.”
Q: “What advice would you give future students enrolling in one of Norwich's online programs?”
A: “I recommend that students plan time each day. Put your school time in your calendar just like if it were an in-person class. The more you put into the program, the more you will get out of it. Strive to learn from each class, and you will be very successful.”
Q: “What aspects of your Norwich experience will you carry most strongly with you?”
A: “I will carry the pride of being part of the Norwich Family. The education is great, but the network of Norwich University alumni is truly amazing. Norwich University is a value-driven, mission-focused organization, and I am proud to wear the Norwich ring and talk about my experiences here at Norwich University. There is no other place like this.”
