student Scott Moore

I was able to apply the knowledge and experience gained from my strategic studies coursework to our actual mission set.

Q: “Tell us about yourself.”
A: “I've been married to my wife Rachel for 14 years, and we have a five-year-old daughter Ellie. We enjoy spending time at the beach whenever we can. I am currently an active-duty Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army. I've spent all of my 18 years of service in Special Operations, having served in 1st Ranger Battalion, 3rd and 5th Special Forces Groups, 1st Special Forces Command and USASOC Headquarters. I've deployed over 19 times between Afghanistan, Chad, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, and Syria.”

Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: “I was motivated to expand my civilian education to supplement my military expertise as I progressed at each echelon of my career. I also wanted to ensure that I was marketable to businesses after my eventual retirement from the Army.”

Q: “Why did you choose Norwich?”
A: “I learned about Norwich University while attending the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2011. I chose Norwich over other online universities based mainly on the fact that it is a historic, brick-and-mortar, and accredited University. Norwich's ability to offer credits for previous military experience and affordable classes at the Army's Tuition Assistance rate were other significant factors. Being an active-duty soldier, there are practically no viable options for me to attend courses in person. Finally, Norwich's flexibility during my deployments ultimately allowed me to complete both my bachelor's and master's degrees.”

Q: “What were some of your expectations for an online degree program?”
A: “Based on conversations with other college graduates, I assumed that online coursework would be too time-consuming and demanding. After taking my first couple of courses with Norwich, I realized they had tailored their online curriculum so that I could manage my own learning timeline while I still had time to focus on my career and family.”

Q: “What is one piece of advice you would give to future students enrolling into one of Norwich's online programs?”
A: “Do it now, don't wait. Norwich's flexibility and experience working with active-duty personnel are second to none. You'll learn from the best professors and walk away with a degree from a historic and reputable University. It will be worth it.”

Q: “How do you plan to use your degree in your career?”
A: “I've continually applied what I've learned at Norwich to my career over the past decade. As I progress in my career and assume more responsibilities, I'm glad I dedicated the time to expanding my civilian and military knowledge base. On my most recent deployment, I was able to apply the knowledge and experience gained from my strategic studies coursework to our actual mission set. I provided relevant insight into our problem set to advise my Commander on developing operational and strategic level courses of action.”
