Kimberly Mallonn
I believe that going back to school and choosing Norwich has allowed me to demonstrate the importance of lifelong learning to my children.
Q: “Tell us about you as a person, Kimberly.”
A: “I’m a married mother of two from Columbus, Ohio. My kids are avid softball and baseball players, so I spend a lot of my time at the ball field. I love being outside and spending time with family and friends."
Q: “What is your current employer and what does your professional life entail?”
A: “I’m the Director of Employee and Organizational Development for Resource/Ammirati , an advertising agency headquartered in Columbus. I’m responsible for Leadership Development for all 400+ associates. I also head the organization's performance management and succession efforts."
Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: “I have always been an avid learner. I’m naturally curious and have been reading and researching leadership development for my entire 27-year career. For years I have wanted to get my masters and felt strongly that I wanted to study leadership because it would be relevant and applicable to my work."
Q: “Please describe any memorable experiences with faculty members or members of your cohort.”
A: “My cohort has been a huge part of my learning experience. From our first seminar, we bonded in a way that I didn’t imagine was possible in cyber space. Our professor, Dr. Kat McQuad, gave us all the confidence to approach each other and gave us the content in such a way that set us up for success from the first week of the program."
Q: “How have your grown personally or professionally as a result of your education?”
A: “Confidence. I have gone from someone who didn’t believe I could do this [going back to school after 26 years is intimidating] to someone who not only completed this program with a 4.0 GPA, but someone who truly believes that what I know can have a positive impact on my organization."
Q: “Please tell us about any examples where you were able to put your knowledge to work immediately at your job.”
A: “I have been applying bits and pieces of my ever-growing knowledge along the way, but the most immediate application came with the change management information. Using Kotter and Black’s tools were very helpful when planning organizational changes."
Q: “Anything else you would like to tell us about your experiences at Norwich or the impact of Norwich on your life?”
A: "I believe that going back to school and choosing Norwich has allowed me to demonstrate the importance of lifelong learning to my children. They have watched me study, post discussions, write papers, read, etc… and I believe it has given them a deeper understanding of the importance of hard work."
