Graduate Certificate in Race, Gender, the Military and the Constitution
The military has made significant progress in achieving greater integration along racial and gender lines. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are now able to participate in all combat missions, serving as pilots, vehicle drivers, mechanics, and infantry officers. The proportion of these groups in the U.S. military has doubled over the past generation, with women now constituting about one-sixth of the total force. In addition to becoming smaller in size, the military has also become more racially and ethnically diverse. This substantial progress reflects the military's dedication to creating a more diverse and inclusive force that can attract top talent.
Curriculum
This graduate certificate is not just about theoretical knowledge, but about its practical application in the real world. It is designed for current and future Department of Defense commanders, directors, and contractors who are interested in a thorough exploration of race and gender in their intersecting contexts. By using race and gender as perspectives, students will gain a better understanding of both historical and current military dynamics, which they can directly apply in their professional roles.
