Veda T. Woods is a cybersecurity advisor and social activist, as well as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Protect Us Kids Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating cybersex trafficking awareness of children from underserved and rural communities around the world.
In a career spanning approximately 20 years, Woods has focused her strategic leadership on cyber policies and decision-making processes intended to protect human rights. From 2009 until 2015, Woods was politically appointed Chief Information Security Officer and Deputy CIO for the former Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, a federal agency created in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, with a mission of identifying fraud, waste and abuse of data related to the $840 billion American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009.
As a cybersecurity executive at a leading global financial services firm, Woods is accountable for cybersecurity threat oversight in support of ensuring a transparent, consistent and comprehensive program for managing operational risk across the firm. She also participates in national and international working groups, promoting best practices in cyber research, data governance, risk management and policy to support strategic initiatives. Woods has received numerous awards for her contributions to secure technology innovation. Because of her personal history of overcoming adversity—from humble beginnings growing up in one of the most volatile neighborhoods of Chicago, to navigating non-inclusive environments throughout her career—Woods maintains a passionate commitment to supporting women and minorities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It is her goal to provide a positive social impact, in support of humanitarian organizations, by applying her expertise to protecting the voiceless from global violence in cyberspace.
