Dr. Thomas S. Hyslip, a faculty member for the Master of Information Security & Assurance program, released his book “Proactive Botnet Detection: Through Characterization of Distributed Denial of Service Attacks” in early April 2015 and recently co-authored a research article published in the Journal of Digital Forensics, Security and Law. The article, “A Survey of Botnet Detection Techniques by Command and Control Infrastructure” analyzes the history of botnets and botnet detection techniques. He currently serves as the Resident Agent in Charge of the Department of Defense, Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS).
In June 2015, Dr. Hyslip released a short book "BIT WARS: Hacking Report: Top Hacks and Attacks of 2014" which is review of the most devastating cyber attacks in 2014.
In the most recent Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences ACJS Today Journal (January 2016, page 32), Dr. Hyslip was interviewed about his experiences in investigating cybercrimes, how individuals become cybercrime investigators and what the challenges they face in the field.
In July 2019, Dr. Hyslip's article, "Assessing the Capacity of DRDoS-For-Hire Services in Cybercrime Markets," was published in the Jornal of Deviant Behavior, a top criminal justice publication. This piece discussed how distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks have changed in the past few years.
