Mike Staley, a 2008 alumnus of Norwich University's Master of Civil Engineering program was accepted into the Doctor of Engineering program at the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. He began the five-year part-time program in February of 2014. Staley credits Norwich's MCE program for much of his professional development. He wrote that Norwich provided a challenging program of study that prepared him to take the Professional Engineer exam and earn his PE license in 2009. He also credits Norwich and the dedicated faculty for helping him apply for his doctoral studies.
Professionally, Staley is the Dean for the School of Engineering, Design and Construction at Seminole State College in Florida and has a role at the institution since 2003. He has successfully secured several education research grants in hopes to enhance retention, completion and diversity within the engineering and engineering technology programs. Experiental and service learning is important to Staley, resulting in his first faculty and student international service learning project in Peru beginning in 2017.
