The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently announced that Christopher Hetner will serve as Senior Advisor to the Chairman for Cybersecurity Policy. Hetner previously served in this capacity under Chair Mary Jo White and Acting Chairman Michael Piwowar. Hetner will continue to coordinate the SEC’s protocol for assessing cyber-related market risk, with a focus on the agency’s overall cybersecurity policies.
Hetner is a 20-year veteran of the information security and technology industries. He has led Ernst and Young’s Wealth and Asset Management Sector Cybersecurity practice and was the Chief Information Security Officer at GE Capital. Hetner was instrumental in the implementation of information security and regulatory compliance programs for Citigroup’s Institutional Client Group global business and technology units. He joined the SEC in January 2015 in the role of Cybersecurity Leader for the Technology Control Program within the SEC’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations. While working in this capacity, he led the vanguard in bolstering cyber safety measures and advised senior leadership on matters of enforcement.
Hetner possesses industry-leading credentials and certifications including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); the National Security Agency Information Security Assessment Certification (NSA INFOSEC); and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
