For MBA graduates Adam Lazar ’06 and Rebecca Hyzer ’14, earning their Master of Business Administration from Norwich University has provided the foundation for success in their professional endeavors.
Lazar and Hyzer have entered into the $5 Million Business Plan competition under the State of New York’s Buffalo Billions initiative. The competition, created to bring economic stimulus to the Buffalo area, began with nearly 7,000 applicants from 96 countries and all 50 states. It is now down to 113 semifinalists, one of which includes Lazar and Hyzer’s starter company: Asarasi, Inc., which was conceived to pioneer the recovery of an agricultural waste product and convert it to an organic and sustainable consumer packaged good.
“I believe it was one part preparation, one part experience, and one part simply hard work,” Lazar said in explaining how he and Hyzer have come so far in the competition. “I credit Norwich with our knowledge set. Our Norwich education has fully prepared us for this amazing opportunity and has played a significant role in our success thus far.”
Throughout the competition, Lazar and Hyzer’s use of the Norwich alumni network has proved invaluable and they are currently networking with other Norwich graduates to help align key facets of the company. No matter the outcome of the Buffalo Billions competition, they say their Norwich University connections have already opened several doors to help make their business a reality.
Beyond their achievements in the competition, they have also seen progress in their professional lives as a result of their Norwich education. Lazar serves as a product leader for a world renowned tactical gear manufacturer and Hyzer is an operations leader within a multinational biopharmaceutical company.
