Q: “Stan, tell us a little about yourself.”
A: “I’m originally from North Dakota and relocated to Florida with my mother, where I earned my undergraduate degree in MIS and forensics. Attending Norwich was an option to continue my education and a great choice.
Q: “Who is your current employer, and briefly describe your professional life?”
A: “I have a multifaceted career. I’ve been a computer consultant for 16 years. Currently I am a consultant with Megabyte Concepts. I’m also the network admin for City of Fort Pierce. I’m a Jack of all trades.”
Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: “I did it to improve the operational environment for City of Fort Pierce knowing the skills I acquired here could be applied there. I also did it to enhance my career, and progress toward an IT director position.
Q: “Why did you choose Norwich and how did you learn about it?”
A: “I did a lot of research. I also looked at UC Berkley, George Mason, and Florida State University. But for curriculum and faculty I like Norwich the best. For all of the other programs you had to be there. I wasn’t able to relocate, and Norwich was online and the curriculum was excellent in tandem.
Q: “What makes Norwich unique?
A: “It a combination of civilian and military elements and they blend it together. They draw from each other. In my program you have DOD, Army and their operational elements in IT, and people like myself [with no military service]. This allows everyone to come together to learn how to solve problems and finds solutions you might not otherwise think of.
Q: “What aspects of the Norwich experience will you carry most strongly with you?”
A: “Integrity. The ethics of the organization. It wants to mold people to stand up for whatever they might be that’s honest and true. They want us to go out in the word as Norwich alumni and represent those values in the workplace and society in general. That’s lacking in our world.”
Q: “Please tell me about any examples you have about putting knowledge to work immediately in your organization.”
A: “At the city, we’re severely lacking in policies and procedures about the operational environment. I’m creating new ones and for the first time we can now provide training to promote security awareness, and in turn, help improve security and better manage the operational environment.
Q: “Anything else you would like to tell us about your experiences at Norwich or the impact of Norwich on your life?”
A: “I would highly recommend it to any professional in this field. It’s more than a worthwhile lifetime endeavor. Norwich Forever!”
