I really enjoyed the construction management aspect in my undergrad studies as well as my job. Strengthen those skills was my motivation to get my degree.

Construction Management

Q: “Tell us about yourself and professional experience."
A: "I was born in San Diego; my Dad was in the Navy and growing up we moved from San Diego to Japan to Hawaii. I’m married with no kids. My interests are playing basketball and outdoor activities like hiking and surfing. I’m currently an active duty officer (O-3, Captain) in the U.S. Air Force. I’ve been a civil engineer for the past four-plus years."

Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: "I really enjoyed the construction management aspect in my undergrad studies as well as my job. Strengthen those skills was my motivation to get my degree."

Q: "Did you have any reservations with choosing an online program?"
A: "No reservations. My deciding factor was that you just never know when you are in the military. During the course of my master’s I have been deployed once and have been TDY (temporary duty) over 15 times. So it was easier with work and my responsibilities to do it online."

Q: “How have you grown personally or professionally since completing your coursework and degree?”
A: "Personally I have grown significantly. Getting my master’s degree is a big accomplishment for me and it has driven me to pursue more for myself. Next, I’m going for my PMP, PE and ultimately my PE. Professionally it puts me ahead of my peers. A lot of captains don’t have their master’s at this stage."

Q: “What aspects of your Norwich education will you carry most strongly with you?”
A: "Flexibility and determination. Flexibility because things constantly change and I have to be able to adapt to the situation. Determination because that’s what will help me be a better officer in the Air Force."
