Oriana Olmedo

Master of Public Administration
, Class of 2012
My capstone on organizational reframing was used in my job constantly, and not just in my organization but with me personally. It’s about having a strategy for your organization and being able to see that.

Master of Public Administration

Q:  “Oriana, tell us a little about yourself and your hobbies.”
A:  “I have been an Air Force reservist for 16 years and I work in HR with the Federal government. I’m married with no kids.  I’m the first in my family to graduate with an undergrad and graduate degree. Now that I can, I like to travel. I also run to get back into shape.”

Q:  “Who is your current employer, and briefly describe your professional life?”
A:  “I work for the USDA as an HR Specialist. I’m in development and I ultimately ensure that all of the HR Specialists are trained.

Q:  “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A:  “Initially I looked into other online programs and I talked to other schools, and to be honest there was a lack of professionalism with them. If I wanted to spend my time, and use my GI Bill®, I want it to be worth it and be challenged.

Q:  “Why did you choose Norwich and how did you learn about it?”
A:  “I just did research online and read reviews. I heard from Norwich through other military members--officers who went to this school. You want to go somewhere relevant and a place with this history. Except Challenge. Achieve Distinction. I wanted to go somewhere where excellence lives versus an ordinary place.

Q:  “Do you have any memorable experiences with faculty members?”
A: “The the entire MPA staff were so understanding during a trying time for me personally, and were incredibly genuine. Kinshire King in admissions was very genuine and good representation of the university. The friendliness means a lot and says a lot.

Q:  “Please tell us about any examples where you were able to put your knowledge to work immediately on the job.”
A:   “My capstone on organizational reframing was used in my job constantly, and not just in my organization but with me personally.  It’s about having a strategy for your organization and being able to see that. “

Q:  “How have you grown as a result of your education?”
A:   “It goes back to being challenged. My continuous growth has given me more self-awareness.”
