My background is in biology and environmental policy and management. Broadening my knowledge to civil engineering was a great next step to opening career doors and allowing me to better apply my environmental background to real world, current projects and jobs.

Q: “Tell us about yourself and professional experience.”
A: "I live in Alexandria, Virginia with my husband and young daughter. I enjoy running, exploring D.C., new restaurants, hiking with my daughter, Charlotte, and Crossfit. My husband, Jim, is a 2015 Civil Engineering Norwich graduate too! I served seven years in the active duty Air Force and AF Reserves. Since, I have been a Department of Defense federal employee working in environmental compliance as a Natural Resources Manager, Air Quality Specialist and NEPA Analyst. I recently accepted a position at Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. for Air/Water Quality Specialist and Environmental Compliance."

Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: "My background is in biology and environmental policy and management. Broadening my knowledge to civil engineering was a great next step to opening career doors and allowing me to better apply my environmental background to real world, current projects and jobs."

Q: "Did you find you were adequately supported by Norwich faculty and staff?"
A: "The faculty and staff were great to work with throughout the program. During my first course, I gave birth to my daughter and everyone was so accommodating to me and my family. Throughout the program, I always felt supported in continuing my classes and having time I needed to complete work following the arrival of my baby. I felt personally and professionally supported by everyone."

Q: “How have you grown personally or professionally since completing your coursework and degree?”
A: "Coming to the program with a non-engineering background was tough, but I learned so much about the process of learning that I feel confident taking on tasks or challenges I may have backed away from previously. My biology background didn’t always translate well into working with engineers and project development. Early on in the program, I understood the value I was getting with my degree because I was able to understand engineering speak and communicate more effectively with my customers."

Q: “How would you describe the Residency experience to future graduates?”
A: "I chose Norwich’s program because I appreciated that Norwich and my instructors invest a week in me. Other online programs do not have this same investment, but I think without it, a great opportunity is lost."
