Q: “What does your professional life entail?”
A: “I am currently a project manager in support of the NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). General Dynamics Information Technology is my employer. Previously, I was in the military from 1998 to 2003. I attained the rank of Staff Sergeant E6. I took this program while overseas.”

Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: “I wanted to earn the degree for career and personal advancement, and I enjoy being a student.”

Q: “Why did you choose Norwich and how did you learn about it?”
A: “I learned about the program from two alumni of the diplomacy program; they both spoke highly of the school. I liked that the online program was offered by a brick-and-mortar school with an excellent reputation. The convenience of an online program was also a factor.”

Q: “Please describe any memorable experiences you may have had with faculty members or your peers.”
A: “I went through the program with my best friend, and it was great to have each other to lean on and to share the experience. The professors were all great. There were several times I needed to ask for an extension because something out of my control would come up, such as the Internet would go down. My professors were very understanding and accommodating. It was refreshing to work with people sensitive to those in the military.”

Q: “How have you grown personally or professionally as a result of your education?”
A: “It was great to challenge myself and find out that I could do it, especially in less-than-ideal working conditions and with the hours I had available. Having my Master of Science in Information Security & Assurance sets me apart as a project manager. I feel the degree will help me professionally, as it gives employers a way to measure me against others. Personally, I set myself up for the challenge, and I accomplished it. The program is intense, but you can make the time to do it. There will be other challenges in life; I now realize I can handle them.”

Q: “Please tell us about any examples where you were able to put your knowledge to work immediately at your job.”
A: “In areas where computer security was lacking, the discussions enabled me to make more recommendations. I was able to take the lessons in the classroom and applied them in areas where IT security was not in accordance.”

Q: “What aspects of your Norwich experience will you carry most strongly with you?”
A: “I will always be proud of meeting the challenge, especially because I was working in demanding conditions. I also thoroughly enjoyed sharing the experience with my best friend.”

Q: “Anything else you would like to share about your Norwich experience?”
A: “I highly recommend the degree to people who are thinking about it - just jump in. Don’t delay because there will always be a reason why now is not the right time.”
