Q: “Tell us about yourself, John.”
A: "Born in Augusta, Georgia, but resided on the island of Guam for most of my life as a military brat. I commissioned as Second Lieutenant in 1991 from the University of Guam, and retired from Active Duty Army in 2014. My wife and I have four children; John, Matthew, Kristen and Benjamin."

Q: “Please describe your professional experience.”
A: "Since 2016, I’ve served as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the Southeast Region of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Prior to that I served in the US Army as a Signal Officer from 1991-2014."

Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: "My first degree [from Norwich] was in diplomacy and an attempt to change career fields in the Army. My second degree from Norwich was to avoid gaps in my resume after I retired. MSISA [M.S. in Information Security & Assurance] was also more closely related to my career path in the Army."

Q: “Did you have any reservations with choosing an online program? What were some of your expectations?”
A: "Yes, my initial impression of online programs was that they were more of a quick way to get a degree. After talking with the staff and some recent graduates, my concerns were alleviated. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, I had heard both good and bad things about online programs and working at the same time. Although it was challenging, it was worth it in the end."

Q: “What aspects of your Norwich experience will you carry most strongly with you?”
A: "Frankly, the tradition and excellence that my programs exuded will always stay with me and make me feel proud of my degree and the university."

John graduated from Norwich's Master of Arts in Diplomacy program in 2008.
