Nursing Education

Q: “Tell us about yourself, Catherine.”
A: "I am a single mother to three beautiful teenagers. I do not have many relatives, but my friends, are more like family and very supportive of my education. I love to garden, do crafts, and spend as much time as possible outdoors."

Q: “Describe your professional experience?”
A: "I graduated with a BSN in 1996. I started out the neurology and intensive care units. I have a passion for community health and worked most recently as a VNA nurse. I accepted a new position, which beginnings in July 2017, as faculty in an accelerated BSN program at MCPHS University in Worcester, MA."

Q: “What was your motivation for pursuing your degree?”
A: "I had a friend, Penni Sadlon, who went through the MSN program at Norwich (she graduated in 2015 and is now perusing her PhD). She and I both had a love of education and worked for the same VNA. She encouraged me to further my education. The NFLP program offered through Norwich has made my education possible. I wanted to set an example to my children that anything you can dream of is possible if you apply yourself. I never finished high school and now I am graduating Norwich with honors and applying to DNP programs."

Q: “Prior to beginning your courses at Norwich, what were some of your expectactions for an online degree program?”
A: "I thought that [online] courses would be easy. I was wrong. The courses at Norwich are taught by doctorate level faculty and their experience and credentials were admirable. I was challenged in every class. The foundation of each class, the discussion boards, allowed application of content which fosters deeper understanding and critical thinking."

Q: “What aspects of your Norwich experience will you carry most strongly with you?”
A: "Meeting my cohort at residency has been an amazing experience. Coming to the campus and being immersed in the rich history, honor, and leadership is something I will take away with me and remember always."
