Master of Arts in History and Military History

Master of Arts in History

The M.A. in History curriculum includes six online seminars (36 credits) that can be completed in 18 months and a one-week Residency. Up to 12 credits can be transferred from accredited graduate programs, including Professional Military Education (PME) institutions.

There are four different tracks that students in the M.A. in History program can follow:

  • American History: Helps you establish yourself as a complete historian through the systematic exploration of history in the United States.
  • World History: Gives you the capability to examine world history to build a strong historical knowledge base.
  • Public History: Enables you to make history accessible through the preservation and interpretation of visual artifacts, written documents, material culture, and other sources.
  • Legal and Constitutional History: Designed for primary and secondary school teachers in American history, world history, social studies, and/or government.

Achievement Scholarship: New students who enroll in the the Master of Arts in History or Military History program may be eligible to receive a $4,200 scholarship towards their degree. Please email Dr. David Ulbrich, program director, at dulbrich@norwich.edu for more information.

Master of Arts in Military History

The M.A. in Military History curriculum includes six online seminars (36 credits) that can be completed in 18 months and a one-week Residency.

Jessica Colon, Master of Arts in Military History graduate, was interested in Norwich’s on-campus residency requirement prior to graduation and Norwich's concept-based courses. 

Jessica found support from professors when submitting her Capstone thesis idea on Marine Corps operations in Hiroshima for the best graduate student paper on military history at the 2018 Northern Great Plains History Conference, which she won (This award was co-sponsored by the Society for Military History).
