Master of Science in Executive Leadership

Core Curriculum

The 36-credit Master of Science in Executive Leadership program comprises 6 six-credit courses, each of which is 11 weeks in length. Students master one course at a time, with each course building on the next to create a strong foundation of knowledge and context for future topics. The program culminates in a required one-week residency and a graduation ceremony at Norwich University in June. There are four start dates per year: March, June, September, and December.

  • The Science of Self - Leadership Mastery on the Move • EXL610 6 credit hours

    Senior leaders have high level of accountability to deliver results through people in complex environments with rapid speeds of operation. Learning how to stay resilient to the stress of such a working environment and how to leverage self-awareness to increase the response of followers is at the heart of this seminar.

  • Leading Complex Change • EXL620 6 credit hours

    Senior leaders are responsible for taking organizations to new levels of productivity, market presence, identity, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and accountability to meet organizational values and vision. The role of the leader is in fact to lead change. This seminar addresses the processes and considerations for leading complex change initiatives in their own organization. Special attention is given to leveraging human capacity for strategic results.

  • Leading Beyond Your Organization • EXL630 6 credit hours

    Students learn necessity and application of leading beyond the organization, and employing values-based leadership competencies. Specific instruction is given to the dimensions of leading organizations and leading in service to enlarge personal understanding of organizational awareness. Values of humility, empathy and the strength of persuasive communications are applied toward achieving sustainable outcomes aligned with the organization’s vision and strategic plan. Navigating diverse environments by calculating the risks of change initiatives and introducing innovative approaches to organizational challenges is the centerpiece of this seminar.

  • Leading with Technology & Data • EXL640 6 credit hours

    In today's world, data analytics is driving an increasing number of decisions and impacting complex business systems. The integration of technology in this decision-making process increases the potential for exposure of sensitive information and intellectual property. This seminar outlines the leadership perspective from which senior leaders must consider these data analyzing tools.

  • Researching Resources & Publishing Results • EXL650 6 credit hours

    This seminar prepares senior leaders to conduct and communicate organizational research that analyzes strategic effectiveness and organizational results. This seminar prepares students for the Capstone seminar.

  • Capstone - Executive Leadership • EXL660 6 credit hours

    This seminar compiles previous program learning and applies it to a specific organizational leadership challenge in the student’s organization. Students address a real-time leadership challenge, develop it into a case study, and present it at the Residency Conference.
