We Want More Students Like You

There is something special about September in Vermont. The air becomes a bit crisper, the green mountains change into rich yellows and oranges, and hunting season is just around the corner. This time of year marks more than just the start of a seasonal change – it’s the beginning week of a new course of study for the hardworking students in the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies.

As much as I love spending the fall in Vermont, much of my job requires me to be out of the office quite a bit. I often find myself brainstorming with military personnel about curricula that better fit their needs or flying across the world to discover how we can increase our institution’s educational and research opportunities. Lucky for me, no matter where I find myself, I will always have my Norwich family to keep me company. With our 11 online degree programs, our current students and alumni cover all corners of the world. They are Navy Chiefs in Virginia, professional basketball players in Spain, Army Aviators in Georgia, PhD students in the U.S. and abroad, CEOs across the globe, and everything in between.

The interactions I have with our Norwich family constantly remind me about the power of recommendation. Our worldwide population of students didn’t simply land in Norwich’s virtual classroom. Many of them hear about us from seasoned alumni who happen to work in the same organization and value Norwich’s deep tradition and history of excellence. Others find Norwich through family members or friends who are current students, committed to advancing their professional and personal goals. Regardless of who the recommendations come from, we know they are constantly happening and sending us great Norwich students. My travels rejuvenate me with the reminder that our students and alumni are the best advocates for our online programs because they have experienced firsthand the relevant instruction and personalized education that Norwich offers for working adults and lifelong learners.

I invite you to share the Norwich experience and grow our family with those who you believe are Norwich material; our alumni and students know Norwich best! Refer a friend, family member or colleague who is looking to effect positive change in their lives, the organizations in which they work and the communities where they live.

Thanks to you all – you make my job worthwhile! I hope our paths cross sometime soon. Now get back to the books before I distract you again with our approaching 2014 Hockey Puck Challenge, it won’t be long before the snow flies in the North Country!!
