The New England Public Works Institute (NEPWI) at Norwich University offers educational training for public works professionals nationwide. As a training arm for the New England Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA), NEPWI provides an online, non-credit course in leadership and management practices for those interested in greater responsibilities in public works.
Developed and taught by experienced public works leaders, the course covers topics such as strategic planning, organizational ethics, transformational leadership, and financial management. Course materials are texts and journals written by members of the American Public Works Association. Through the online learning environment, students also engage in discussions about relevant challenges and solutions.
For APWA members, completion of the New England Public Works Institute is an important step in credentialing for Level 1 Public Works Supervisor (PWS) and Level 2 Public Works Manager (PWM). NEPWI is available to anyone interested in the public works sector.
The New England Public Works Institute consists of four blocks of two months duration each. Blocks 1, 2 and 3 are not sequential; students may take blocks 1, 2 and 3 in any order. Block 4 is open to students only after successful completion of Blocks 1, 2 and 3. Each of the blocks has a theme:
