Nursing Informatics Concentration
The online Master of Science in Nursing program is proud to announce a new Nursing Informatics concentration as part of a total program revision designed to meet contemporary nursing education standards and fulfill the needs of working nurses. Technology continues to reshape the way we live and the manner in which businesses operate, and the healthcare industry is no exception. In order to boost efficiency and keep pace with the adoption of electronic documentation systems, health care organizations are increasingly seeking to hire nurses who specialize in nursing informatics, a crucial discipline that combines nursing science with information management and analytics for the purpose of collecting, interpreting and managing important patient data. Nursing informatics specialists are trained to work with the latest developments in information management technology, such as electronic health records, real-time location systems and patient-generated health data systems; these tools allow nurses to improve the quality of care they provide while reaching a greater number of patients. The Master of Science in Nursing’s new Nursing Informatics concentration will launch in December 2017 and is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and approved by the Vermont State Board of Nursing.
