The College of Graduate and Continuing Studies (CGCS) is set to move to a new online learning management platform, providing students with an improved virtual classroom experience. With the start of its September 2014 semester, Norwich online students will be using the learning management system Moodle.

The migration to the Moodle platform offers exciting opportunities for the College and its students through enhanced features and tools. One of the key upgrades this switch provides is becoming more mobile-friendly, allowing students, faculty and staff to access course content via their mobile device’s web browser. Additionally, as the Moodle technology provides advanced capabilities, CGCS will more seamlessly be able to increase the classroom experience and the resources available to students.

“Educational technology continues to evolve, and we are excited about the upcoming changes with Moodle,” comments Bill Clements, Dean of the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies. “The technology will help enhance the way we bring students their Norwich education.”

Moodle offers many advantages to students and faculty, allowing easier access to classroom content and helping to increase user efficiency.

New features include:

  • Availability of all information from the course’s homepage, providing quick access to weekly assignments, announcements, and discussion forums.
  • Customizing of individual views, making course menus most utilized viewable and hiding others.

Further enriching the online educational experience of students, CGCS will be rolling out a Virtual Campus website in conjunction with Moodle in September. Virtual Campus will serve as students’ central location for accessing important information and resources for Norwich University’s College of Graduate and Continuing Studies. Through Virtual Campus, Norwich’s online students will be able to:

  • Access their classroom and student email
  • Enter the Norwich library’s database to conduct research
  • View announcements about the College, their program of study, and other Norwich news
  • Locate and manage their financial aid and tuition billing accounts
  • Find additional key resources essential to their academic journey

CGCS is excited for the possibilities available through Virtual Campus and Moodle, enhancing the students' overall educational experience.
