Roland Descoteaux is actively balancing life as a Norwich University Master of Business Administration student with his responsibilities as a certified Lean Six Sigma black belt member in Kandahar, Afghanistan. As separate as these worlds may seem, Descoteaux is able to focus his independent research project and residency poster presentation for his project management concentration on his duties in Afghanistan. Six months ago, the Lean Six Sigma team was charged to look at the Redistribution Property Assistance Team year’s operations and move towards a more efficient method. Since the team’s inception, the battalion’s operations are said to have transformed into a leaner, more cost-conscious set of processes better capable to meet the logistical needs of the Army. With his prior experience as a productivity improvement consultant in private industry, Descoteaux helps to blend the military decision making process with applicable private sector business practices.
